What Is Consumer Behavior in Marketing?
Consumer Behavior
One day you feel like you want to hit the grocery store to get some groceries; you reach the milk shelf and you find several brands of milk; you stand there for a while then you make your decision to buy that specific brand of milk; you put it in your shopping cart and continue shopping. Ever thought that all that you have done earlier is a process that took place in your subconscious mind? Ever thought that companies designed the products in a certain way to make your mind decide to buy them without you feeling it? Ever thought that companies choose where their products are placed in the supermarkets and grocery stores so that they take the lead of your buying decision? Worth holding there for a second and think about it, ha?!
All that just happened is a process called Consumer Behavior. Consumer behavior simply means to study the behavior of individuals, groups, or even organizations towards your product and what are the factors that affect their buying decision so that you use these factors to affect their buying decision and shopping experience. In other words, this process targets your subconscious mind and manipulate it with some factors that help in making you choose to shop in a specific store more than the other.
These factors are the five senses; smell, sight, hearing, touch and taste. Marketers market their products through your five senses because studies showed that they have great influence on the consumer’s buying behavior. So stores now put certain smell, play certain music, design the store’s layout and choose this kind of fabrics in their clothes all of this to provide you with a unique shopping experience that will make you comfortable shopping at that place and like their products which will eventually make you more loyal to this place. Next time you go shopping pay attention to these details; the smell of the place, where the products are being place and what kind of music was played and share with us how you felt about your shopping experience.
